SIGHT & SOUND SOFTWARE COMPLETES ONLINE RESERVATIONS SYSTEM FOR AMERICAN AIRLINES

Sight & Sound Software, Inc. completed the design and implementation of the reservation engine for American Airlines new online reservation system - launched today on Americans completely redesigned web site at http://www.aa.com/.

Beaverton, Oregon June 22, 1998 - Sight & Sound Software, Inc., a Beaverton, Oregon-based software and multimedia development company, completed the design and implementation of the reservation engine for American Airlines new online reservation system - launched today on American's completely redesigned web site at http://www.aa.com/. Already the most popular airline site on the web, according to Media Metrix, the new site provides more rapid access to flight, information, presents personalized information to its AAdvantage members and reduces the number of screens required to book a flight in half. Information and reservations are made through SABRETM - the world's largest travel reservation system providing service to airlines and travel agents for booking flights, rental cars, and hotels worldwide.

"This is a third generation travel site," said Mark Tilden of Sight & Sound. "It incorporates the latest technology to deliver personalized content to millions of American's customers and provides the best travel services on the Internet."

Sight & Sound Software's new reservation engine consists of an Internet browser-based user interface combined with database and communication software designed to give American's customers personalized information and direct access to SABRE. The company was chosen for the project due to their prior successful partnership in the development of Personal AAccessTM - a disk-based reservation program shipped to millions of American's frequent flyers.

"The site's innovative user interface is key to its success. Now with fewer steps, it's so simple to take control of your own reservations that anyone can do it," said John Samuel, American's Managing Director of Interactive Marketing. SABRE is based on mature technology and its direct interface is very complex. Ticket agents train for months on its operation. Sight & Sound, however, developed a friendly and efficient browser-based interface to SABRE that is intuitive - requiring no prior knowledge or training.

Sight & Sound developed the new reservation tool's overall architecture, and the "middleware" - software needed to link the browser to the SABRE system, track the user's progress through the reservation process, and handle communication and data formatting. Sight & Sound's solution extends Broadvision, Inc.'s One-to-One personalization framework into the travel market. The entire site uses Iona Technologies' Orbix implementation of the common object resource broker architecture (CORBA). These cutting-edge object and database technologies allowed for personalization of the web site content and completion of the project in six months by managing the complexity involved in getting a variety of systems, or objects, running on separate host computers to communicate seamlessly.

"Sight & Sound Software performed well on a complex project with an aggressive timeline," said Mr. Samuel. "They've demonstrated their proficiency with the SABRE reservation system and the latest e-commerce and database technologies. The combination is quite beneficial as it allows individuals to easily handle their own travel arrangements faster and take advantage of great unpublished fares."
